I must admit, I am a real linux newbie - I don't use it unless I have to, and even then it is only to do with the hosting aspects of things.

Has anyone tried WINE - the windows emulator? I am really keen to get a linux box going, but only if I could get a couple of custom applications written in VB to still work! I suppose the only way I will find out is if I give it a go, any experiences would be nice ;)

Cool, do they seem to be able to run many applications on it?

I've had VB3 IDE and programs running in Wine successfully in the past. The only problem is lack of fonts.

Now this confuses me ... run Linux, and stick Windows on it.

Well that is what your doing, isn't it?

Mucks, the idea is that certain things will only run in Windows, like MS Office and most games, for instance.

Suppose you didn't want to use Windows anymore but you needed to have access to and create MS Office documents? And you simply had to play Far Cry and Doom III? Then WINE is for you ;)
