Greeting,

Can someone tell me if it was possible to reformat Window XP Home Edition
onto another laptop when the previous laptop on which it was previously
installed was accidentally damaged in a fall? I bought a second hand laptop
and i wish to reformat it with my XP OS since I still own my genuine original
CD. Please help!!!
p.s. The XP OS was previously activated and registered on my previously
laptop.

Can I still use the CD to reformat my new laptop?

Cheers...

Only if the CD is a full retail or retail upgrade version. If the version of
XP you have is OEM then the licence expired when the computer did, further
more, unless the new laptop is identical to the old one then the install may
well fail as some OEM CDs are specific for the particular computer they came
with and will not install on any other make or model.

Thanks a lot. You have been of a help. However I do have another question:
How do I know that my software is OEM, that it is not a full version?
The XP OS Cd I have, I got it when I had bought my previous laptop.
Is there anything I can do, without having to buy a new software because
finances are kind of short right now... reason why I bought a second hand
laptop.

Thank you once again for any help or suggestions I may get.

Cheers...

Some OEM CDs are branded with the laptop manufacturers name on the CD, If
the CD came with the laptop then it is almost certainly and OEM version
especially if the laptop is from a large manufacturer such as Dell, HP, IBM,
Acer, Toshiba etc. The COA sticker on the original laptop (the one with the
product key) may also say OEM some where on it.
