We need to either disable or really speed up the spooler
function on a WinXP Point-of-Sale computer. Although the
software is designed to send simple text receipts directly
to the hardware port (e.g., LPT1:), the spooler causes a
TWENTY to THIRTY second delay before the receipt prints.
This is too long of a delay. What can be done???

Thanks,
Roy Canon

A couple of us on the group have been hoping to hear about cutting back
this delay too. My print spooler sometimes delays printing for a whole
day! What can be done about it?

The problem that I have is with applications for Windows: the MS Office
XP suite, Corel Draw, notepad, ...

I haven't tried to print from any DOS applications.

So, what might cause the XP print spooler to store documents for hours

I have two POS systems and they do delay a bit. my
vendor suggests using the generic print driver and text
oly, then set to raw data. it has helped.

A couple of things to check:

Open the Printer's Properties and select the Advanced tab
1. make sure that the "Always available" radio button is selected

2. if the "Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster" is
selected, check that the "Start printing immediately" radio button is
selected.

3. you could try using the "Print directly to the printer" radio button

How is your printer connected (e.g. parallel, USB, network)?

What make and model of printer?
