First when my windows xp wasent working bec some file was
missing i installed windows 98 and then upgraded to xp
agian so now on my hard drive there are 3 oprating
systems. Is there any way to delete the windows xp that im
not using? Is there there a way that i could just delete
everthing and start from scratch?

If you look at your c drive you should only see one windows folder, in which
case even though your machine asks which operating system you want to use,
only one version of xp is available.

If this is the case then right clcik 'my computer' (in the start menu) and
select properties, click the advanced tab in the box that appears, look at
the section titled start up and recovery and clcik settings. then clcik the
edit button, you should see something like...

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="windows 98"

delete the line that refers to windows 98 so that all you are left with is
something like this

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect
