Hello. You might try this:
First, close Windows Mail, then
Open C:\Users\YourProfile\AppData\Local\Microsoft\
Copy the Windows Mail folder as a backup, don't just create a shortcut, just
in case this doesn't work for you the way it did for me.
In the original Windows Mail folder, not the backup folder delete
WindowsMail.MSMessageStore then start Windows Mail again.
Windows Mail will perform a recovery and may fix your problem.

Let me know the results.

Regards,
Greg.

I am running Windows Vista Home edition on a HP pavilion Elite m9040n This
system runs a Intel core 2 Quad processor with 3 Gb of system memory. I use
OFFICE for my email program but use Windows mail for a news group reader.
The only antivirus I run is AVG although the machine did come with Norton,
that I uninstalled.

Lately I have been unable to run maintence under the Tools, options,
andvance button. My storage folder is now 952 Mg without any email messages.
I have gone to each news group and reset, deleted and removed messages. I
did get a message saying Windows Mail was going to compact the folder but it
always fails to do that and I finally turned of that option.

Is my storage folder really that big?

Ccan I compact it or reset everything as I am having difficulties when I
read newsgroups messages such as out of memory, unable to open message
please check memory.

I followed your directions and Windows mail performed a recovery but still
have the same problem. In outlook express, Windows XP, it would shoew the
file size at a largeer number than when it was compacted it went down to
zero. Is there anythng else you can suggest.

I appreciate the first suggestion.
