i want to re-install windows to start from fresh. how do i
do that? i heard that you have to re-format or something
like that.any healp would be appriciated.

If you are having problems what you can do is a repair
installtion....all your files stay intact with this
option.....http://www.dougknox.com/ click on winxp tips
and then How To Do a "Repair Installation"

other wise you boot from the winxp cd and do a fresh
installation...........with this as all options back up
everything first good luck Mike

A re-install is a very drastic step. What problems are you having that
require such a drastic solution? Are you sure this will fix the problem?

You do it as part of a reinstall of the system after booting the XP CD
direct. Set your BIOS setup (hit the hot key, eg DEL at the initial
memory count) to a boot order of CD before Hard disk, probably in a
Boot page or a CMOS or BIOS setup one. Put the CD in, Exit, saving
settings, to boot the CD. Enter Setup, and after the license agreement
take New Install. When it asks you to confirm where, hit ESC; select
and delete the current partition and make a new RAW one to be formatted
at the next stage
