Hi,

I Have recently purchased a second hand machine from work which comes with a
windows license. I am trying to re-install windows to remove everything else
and start fresh. I borrowed my friends CD to install however when i come to
enter my license key it tells me its not valid.

How can i re-install windows with my license?

Get a proper CD - one that matches the type of key you have.

OEM requires an OEM license (is the product key on a sticker on the
machine?)
Retail requires a Retail license (could be Full or Upgrade version.)

Etc...

Product keys are unique to a partcular XP installation. You need the key
specific to your installation - there are utilites available that provide
the key - such as the "Jelly Bean Key Finder" (Google for it).

Hey,

Thanks for the replies.

Jelly Bean Key Finder only works on installed versions of windows. I am
unable to boot as i have 1/2 installed a new copy.

I do have a sticker on my box so i assume it is an OEM version. Is it
possible to download a copy as i have the license or do i have to purchase a
new CD?

No there is no download. You could borrow a generic OEM XP installation CD
of the same type, Pro or Home, and language, make a copy of it and use
that. Or look to buy only the CD on eBay. The last resort is to buy
another copy with product key but don't do that on eBay.

Use the CD from work that goes with the computer and license.

I have a question

I have a windows XP professional disc, the original one that you buy at the
store, and I own the "This is already installed on your PC" re-installation
disc. At the moment I'm running windows XP home, and I want to install
Windows XP Professional and I lost my 25 digit product key to activate it,
what do I do? or how do I get a new code

Call Microsoft. They will run you through some proof of ownership questions and then give you a replacement Key. I can't find the direct phone number, but you can start here (scroll down to "Need more help?") http://support.microsoft.com/
