When I start my computer the screen the window "Microsoft Windows XP" comes
up, however, it stops there and does not go to the "Welcome window". I just
can't get into Windows. I rebuilt my machine on 11/15/04 and it worked great
until this morning 11/27/04 after I had the same problem. Is there any other
way to correct this problem without rebuilding my machine, thanks for any
help, Al

Open to the BIOS,install xp cd,configure to boot to xp cd,exit BIOS,at
selection
screen,recovery,press enter key for password,then type:CHKDSK C: /R
When its thru, type:EXIT Enter BIOS,select boot to C:,exit BIOS,let xp start
up.If it doesnt,at restart or start-up,tap the F8 key,select safe-mode with
networking,enter as administrator.

Thank you for your response, however, when I go into my Bios no matter what I
sellect I get the same screen and no further. I do not have an XP cd., hp
only gives you "hp Quick Restore System Recovery CD's and a Operating System
CD" for XP Home SP 1.

Try booting your computer with the "Operating System CD for XP Home"
SP 1" and see what options it gives you. If the opening menu includes
the option for "Repair (Recovery Console)" then choose that option and
when it finishes booting enter the command:

CHKDSK /R

If booting from the CD does not give you the option for Recovery
Console then you need to go to
http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=310994 and download the appropriate
set of 6 diskette images for your version of XP (=Home Service Pack 1)
and use those to boot your problem computer. When it has finished
booting you can run the command

CHKDSK /R

If your problem computer does not have a 3.5 inch diskette drive and
if you have access to a CD Burner on another computer then you can
download Bart's PE Builder from http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ and
create a bootable CD. Boot the problem computer with that CD, open a
command prompt Window, and run

CHKDSK /R

Good luck
