I have wonderd this scince i used a computer with XP. Why is it so crap? It
always crashes, programs stop responding and the system is genrally unstable.
Do micrososft have some kind of sadistic desire to cause fustration umong
their users? WE HAD TO ABANDON WINDOWS BY GETTING A MAC BECAUSE OF THIS!
Could microsoft please reply to this post and answer my plea?

I could answer, but the chances are you wouldn't see it anyway since you are
using Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000 as your newsreader. Simple answer, if
you don't bother to learn the system and take minimal precautions, you wind
up with problems. Kind of like leaving all your money outside in a bad
neighborhood, and then wondering why it's gone in the morning. Even Mac
will get slowed and start crashing unless you learn how to keep it clean.
But since you won't see this, why as I bothering?

Windows runs pretty well, when the user follow certain procedures, like not
install so much crap on it keeping it updated and running regular
maintenance schedules.

Maybe rather than WinXP the problem is third-party software your vendor
pre-loaded as "surprise gifts." ;-(

My PC came with third-party auto-starting programs that were bloated, flaky
and obtrusive. Annoyingly, a few were "trial" versions I'd have to pay for
after a month or two. It took effort to uninstall stuff I didn’t want. For
what didn't uninstall cleanly, I fell back to the vendor's support service.
Finally, the system works reasonably well now.

Microsoft will not reply, only some MVP's at best.

The reason your XP is unstable is because of all of the spyware and malware
on it and possibly viruses and trojans too. The spyware was installed by
the questionable websites you visit, without your knowledge. The trojans or
viruses most likely came from launching attachments in e-mails sent to you
by people you don't know and weren't expecting.

Google on "What is spyware" and read about it.

There are many simple steps that can be taken to prevent this. Not using IE
is one of them.

So, if you have given up on Windows XP, I will gladly take the unstable XP
computer off your hands.

First of all, this is a user-to-user support group. If you want an answer
from Microsoft, you'll need to contact them directly.

Second, from the number of misspelled words and bad grammar, I don't know if
you are a Troll, someone really lacking in PC knowledge or some kid playing
around.

Windows XP is the most stable version of Windows ever, and with proper
maintenance, good malware/virus tools, plus proper hardware, it runs
amazingly well. I have 4 desktops and 1 laptop running XP and none of them
has EVERY crashed. Well, one machine crashed during the beta, but that's to
be expected.

I'd be willing to bet that I would find 100's of virus, malware, spyware,
etc. on that PC. I had one of my golf friends complain about his XP system
a few weeks ago, and found over 1000 BAD malicious programs.

Enjoy your MAC, and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Do you have any specific problem(s) that you need help with, or
are you just venting?

It clearly sounds like an issue of
ncompatible/sub-standard/defective hardware, or device drivers, or
defective/sub-standard wetware.

It's your hardware/configuration which is crap, not XP which is stable
and mature with SP2.

Beats me. I have a system that is first upgraded from 95 to 98SE, then
upgraded to XP Pro. No reformatting. But still very very stable.
System at work (with lots of developing, pro-size scanners, tweaks,
experimenting etc etc) is also very very stable.

OK, thing DO chrash. Vut it is not a general problem all the time.

Because you are stupid?

There are millions of people using Microsoft Windows XP, in all of its
variants, with no issues at all. Usually, crashing and other problems are
created by third party software added by the user. Poorly written software,
or software that replaces key files with older versions are usually to
blame.

I have a question for you...more of a challenge, really. It is simply this:

I challenge *you* to author an Operating System that is over 9 million lines
long, and have it run on 90% + of all the computers in the world. I dare
you to try. You cannot do any better than MS has done.

I am glad you got a MAC. It will allow you to remain ignorant and
clueless, as you are apparently meant to be.
