Is there any way that I can get my XP program to download
WORD. I only have "wordpad" which does not include a
spell-check and it just isn't working for school papers.
Also, my outlook program doesn't even have spell-
check...is there a place I can go to download?
Thank you so much.

WORD is not available for download, you have to buy a CD at
a store. The least expensive way is to buy MS WORKS SUITE
it has WORD and the WORKS applications. Since you are a
student you can buy the MS OFFICE Student/Teacher edition
for about $125-150 at BestBuy, Office Max, Office Depot.

If you have a fast Internet you can download the free OPEN
OFFICE program.

Sorry, Word is commercial software for sale and is not legally
available for download anywhere. If you want it, you'll have to
buy it. The cheapest way is as part of the Microsoft Works Suite.

Or if you don't want to spend that much, consider another
alternative: Corel WordPerfect, StarOffice, or the freeware
OpenOffice.

Candy, there are a lot of good, free spellcheck dictionaries available for
download. Here is one for Outlook Express (thanks, Kelly):

As far as Word, it is something you will have to purchase on a disk if you
absolutely have to have brand-name "Word." However, there is a free download
you can get that is the equivalent of the entire MS Office suite. It is
called OpenOffice. A new edition has just been released.

XP Office (which contains Word) and Microsoft Works
(which is a smaller version of Office) are for sale as a
CD from Microsoft but not availabe for download (the
files are too big). You can purchase them at a local
store just as fast.

Go to this site:

You have two options.

First, if you need the full featrues of Word, including the spell
check, then you'll just have to go out and buy Word. It can't be
downloaded. An alternative would be something like OpenOffice, which
is free for the download.

Option two: if you just need spell checking capabilities but
everything else in Wordpad works for you, how about a dictionary? It
would be cheaper.

You could also go to a used software store and pick up a previous version of
Word or Office. Some older versions have a few hick-ups when installed on
XP, but if you can find a copy of Word 2000, you'll be OK.

Greetings --

You'll have to go to a software store purchase Word, it's not
available as a download.

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.

Outlook Express, as you've discovered, has no spell-checking
capabilities of its own. Instead, it relies upon the presence of
other Microsoft applications, such as the Office Suite, Word, or the
Works _Suite_ (which includes Word, not the regular Works). There are
also some 3rd-party shareware/freeware solutions available at any of
the many shareware sites on the Internet

Spell Magic seems well thought-of, though I haven't tried it myself:
