My Windows XP computer will not boot into windows. It gets as far as the loading screen, and then a blue screen with wriiting appears for about 1/4 of a second. I managed to see what it said by using my digital camera fast frame rate. Here is the beginning of the error message

[ A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUM

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed......

It goes on to say you should remove any new hardware, and start in safe mode and disable any BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing

There is also a long number at the bottom under the heading TECHINICAL INFORMATION [20 or so digits] which i won't write here, but if anyone thinks it might be useful I will post it. This whole problem occured after my computer freezed during a virus scan[ I dont think I have a virus, as I keep norton and windows very up to date.] and I rebooted it. It has not loaded into windows since then, even safe mode wont work. My computer is a very stable 2.8 ghz P4, 1 GB RAM, windows xp pro, PC from IBUYPOWER.com. I have only had to restart it a few times in the 4 months I have had it.
My 120 GB hard drive is the primary device on a IDE cable shared with my CD writer, and I have never had a problem like this before. Please hel
Thanks in advanc
Please let me know if you have any idea

Try booting up using the XP CD-ROM and choose to repair. Then choose the
Recovery Console Option...
Choose the number corresponding to your XP version and enter your
Administrator Password (then press enter).

After that you'll see a command prompt...enter the following command:

bootcfg /rebuild" command to fix boot.ini.
FIXBOOT will fix the boot sector on the boot drive,
FIXMBR will fix the master boot record if the NT loader
complains of a missing HAL or unmountable boot volume.

After the process is completed enter the command EXIT to quit (and the
system should auto reboot OK from that point onwards...

use the fix boot command
