I'm trying to connect a Rio s11 mp3 player to my PC running windows XP. XP recognizes the hardware unit (correctly identifies the name) but when i direct the install manager to the folder where the drivers (that i downloaded from Rio) are, i get a windows message that it can't install the neccessary software.

When you downloaded the drivers from Rio, are they in ZIP format
If yes, then the file must be unzipped first, for you cannot install a compresse
file. Try to run an install from the Run feature, if the driver file ends in .ex
Otherwise, go back to the Rio website for installation info. Didn't the MP
player come with an installation disk, user manual or brochure?

If this error is the direct result of downloading and installing a windows
update, please give more information as to which udpate you installed, and
error messages if any. If this is NOT the result of a windows update, you
are in the wrong forum. You might try

Did you install the music management software that came with the player?
Your player may not support direct file access through Windows (it won't
appear as a USB drive that you can upload and download to, only the
accompanying software can transfer files, and possibly only audio ones).
Some players can act as a USB storage device and support any file format
through Windows Explorer, but perhaps yours can't.
