Windows XP Won't Install Just Resets Laptop

Hi,

I am trying to install XP it load to the first blue screen but as soon as i
press return the Laptop resets itself everytime.

The laptop only has DVD/CD drive no floppy i boot up a windows 98 boot disk
cd and tried to run fdisk this runs but as soon as you hit enter on the
first screen it goes back to the DOS prompt..?? I tried typing FDISK /mbr
but it says no fixed disks installed...


Please help, i can install windows ME no problem on this laptop but really
want XP as this is
what was installed from new.

If fdisk is saying that there is not fixed disk installed, then there is a
problem, and that would be why setup will not allow you to continue. I know
people will say that you shouldn't even be using fdisk as xp setup will do
everything for you, but it will be the simplest way to troubleshoot.
You need to make sure that you can see the hdd in the bios, and also try
fdisk without /mbr and see what it tell you.
