Windows XP USB device deteced as mouse

I have a GPS attached vis a USB port. If the computer is turned on and the
GPS is running, the PC detects the GPS as a mouse and I can't control the
pointer. If the GPS is off when the computer is started everything works OK.
I heard there was a registry envy to correct this problem, but I can't find
it.

Have you check at the web site for your GPS device? Have you called
their Tech support?
