Windows XP Upgrade or Full version??

I recently had to put my old Sony VAIO to sleep. It had come with a
Win98 on it.

Does anyone know if I would qualify for the Upgrade version of XP if I
was installing it on a new PC? The Sony did not come with an actual
Win98 CD, just a recovery CD. However, I know that this does contain the
full version and that there were no "hidden" partitions with the full
install since I had to replace the hard drive once before.

I would hate to purchase the Upgrade and it not work, but at the same
time, I would hate to spend the extra cash if I didn't need to.

Thanks in advance!

I guess that answered my question. Since the old OS was BIOS based, it
probably will not work if I try to do a clean install on a new PC even
with an original CD.

Thanks,

No - that does not qualify. It was an OEM copy, licensed solely to the
machine where first installed (at a big discount to the makers as a
result)

No - that was an OEM license, solely to the Sony, and not good for use
(even as underpinning of upgrade) on anything else
