Windows XP Upgrade Blocking Issue

I'm upgrading from Windows 98 to XP Home. The upgrade
fails because of a blocking issue. Says I must uninstall
GOBACK. I can't find it on my uninstall list. I've done a
search of my C drive and can't find it. I have uninstalled
all Symantec programs. How can I resolve this?

Do a clean install. This can be done with the upgrade disk. Back up all
your critical data, change your system BIOS to boot from the cd drive and
restart the system. Stick the XP disk in and reboot then choose to do a new
installation of XP. Have your Windows 98 disk handy, you will be asked to
insert it to prove you have a legal copy of an older Windows operating
system.

If GoBack was ever installed, and then uninstalled incorrectly, there will
still be GoBack information in the MBR. This will block/interfere with an
install of Windows XP. The best thing to do would be to reinstall GoBack.
Then reboot. Then uninstall GoBack - correctly! Then reboot again. Now the
MBR will be clear of the GoBack information because of the correct uninstall
method.

Now he can either upgrade or do a clean install.

Another way would be to delete ALL partitions off the main hard drive. Then
create new ones and format same. This will also create a new MBR without the
GoBack information hanging around.
