Windows XP Updates

Which of the many updates are really critical? I am a home user, not
on any chatrooms or exotic sites. Is there a listing of these updates?

The last time I downloaded updates, computer stopped, blue screen,
Serious Error and began a memory dump every time I turned on. Finally
used Restore before the download date. Problem solved. Now what?

All that are labeled critical are critical. If you are current in your
updates you won't be affected by the latest virus going around. Do one at a
time if necessary but do them. Shut down all the virus programs and other
trash when downloading and installing.
