Windows XP updates

Since I installed a patch on 4/9/03 and let Microsoft enabled a firewall on
my PC, I cannot get any updates - When selecting " Scanning your PC" it
quickly jumps to 100%, error is 0x800A138F. Windows update log file shows :
2003-11-13 19:39:01 17:39:01 Error IUENGINE Querying software
update catalog from
https://a248.e.akamai.net/v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/getmanifest.asp
(Error 0x800C0008)
The suggested steps by Microsoft did not solve the problem. Do you have a
solution?

Look for "Error 0x800A138F displayed during Scan, 0x800C0008 shows in
Windows Update.log "
