I need help please. My XP Professional appears to shut down in the
normal way, but then at some time later (can be hours!) suddenly turns
on. It is a relatively recent installation, but I had the same
problem previously with XP Home Edition. Could there be something
amiss in the bios or the motherboard.

I need help and would appreciate advice.

Thanks.

Awakening from a dead state has nothing to do with Windows (or *any*
Operating System).
Enter your computer's Basic Input Output System (BIOS) and de-select the
options to "Wake On LAN", "Wake On Modem", and, of your BIOS has such a
feature, "Wake" at a specified time.
