Windows XP to Win2K Server

John G.

Greetings all. We have two Windows XP (Home Edition) machines that we are
trying to network to our server machine (running windows 2000 server
edition).

At the moment it doesn't seem possible. The XP machines cannot see the WIN2K
machine. Well they can see its workgroup, which is named 'Workgroup', but
when you click on it it says that I don't have access to log on.

I take it I need to do something on the Win2K machine? Our macintosh
machines can back up to the win2k with no problems, what am I doing wrong
with the xp machines?

thanks for any help

XP Home does not have the capability to connect to a win2K domain in the
traditional since of the word. However, if you create a user on the XPH PC
that is the same as a domain user you can gain access to server. One way to
do it is to use the UNC path to a share. \\servername\sharename. Or simply
try \\servername. When you do gain access to the shares you will be asked
to provide a username and password each time you try to connect.

To make this easy and have full domain login access, upgrade those XPH pcs
to XP Pro.
