Don

I just installed the latest updates to windows xp. Now
when I power up my system it stops and I have to select
an icon of user to signon, I only have one which is OWNER.

This did not happen until I installed the latest updates
to XP from windows update.

Before this I just powered up the system and everything
just came up.

You probably gave user OWNER a password for the first
time. If the password field is left blank (or reset to
blank via "users" icon under Control Panel) the system
will automatically boot to the desktop (I'm 99% sure of
this).
Good luck
