After some device juggling, my PC no longer boots properly.

In safe mode, everything is okay.
In normal mode, the boot takes about 45 minutes.

Any ideas where to start?

Connectors.

Great idea, but it didn't help. I even tried a different IDE cable.
Linux still boots fast, WinXP Safe boots fast, WinXP slow as molasses.
Any other ideas?

First of all, is this a windows setup problem (installing and deploying XP
on new computers) or is it a problem that has recently appeared with your
established Windows setup? If this is not a new installation issue, try the
microsoft.public.windowsxp.basic newsgroup.

You're right, I was off-topic. It was a new issue, but not a new install.

For what it's worth, a complete reformat/reinstall fixed it.
