So I went and moved my hard drive :(

Hi,

I had a catastrophic motherboard failure this morning and so can't get
into my XP machine. I have another machine running Vista so I put the
XP hard drive in there as master and booted up. As expected it crashes
(blue screen memory dump).

I can boot up into safe mode so I can get to all my data, however, I
have some dated software that wil only run on XP and takes an age to
set up (like a week).

I can't repair my XP installation cos it came from an OEM install on
the previous PC.

I have downloaded the drivers for the new PC and installed them and
have also disabled loads of devices in device manager but I still get
blue screen. I see the windows xp startup screen then it crashes.

Is there anything else I can do to try and get the thing booted up
normally or am I gonn ahave to bite the bullet and go set the whole
thing up again from scratch?

Thanks to anyone who reads this.

Well if its an OEM version the Licence died with your origonal PC so you
probably couldnt install it on to different hardware anyway

You could in any case recover data by simply connecting the drive as a
slave, no need to start win (on that drive)
