Windows XP Start-up Problem

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition on a Dell Inspiron 2500. A few months
ago, I started up my laptop and everything seemed normal enough, the Windows
splash screen appeared and it seemed that Windows was starting up normally.
After the splash screen goes away the screen should be dark (but still
backlit) with the mouse arrow finally appearing in the center of the screen
and then the blue Windows start-up screen should appear. However, this time
the screen remained dark (but still backlit) with no mouse arrow appearing in
the center of the screen and definately no blue Windows start-up screen. That
was it. Windows would not load any further than that. So I held down the
power button to turn off my laptop and try again. The computer came on,
windows started loading, and of course since I hadn't been able to properly
shut windows down the check disk for errors process started and then windows
loaded properly. Unfortunately this same process happens everytime I start my
computer now. I turn it on, windows loads to the point right before the
little mouse arrow should appear on the backlit screen, and then the blue
start up screen should appear, but it never does load. Then I must always
shut off the computer and turn it on again, go through the error check and
then it will start up alright. How can I fix this problem? Thanks!

I guess that you should replace HDD with bigger one after you bought.
In that case, you would make mistake in assemblying hdd to pin connector and
cable.
That is why OS booted and shutdowned suddenly time to time, if I understood
your problem exactly.

Another one, I may understand that if you explained that screen is too dark,
it is a time to replace LCD itself.

It seems as though lots of people have had this problem with their laptops
including me. I'm no expert but this seems to be a software problem that no
one has accurately diagonosed yet.
