Windows XP start up failure after system upgrade

I just replaced the motherboard, processor, and memory in
my Windows XP PC with newer and faster components. I am
keeping my hard drive. Prior to the upgrade, XP ran
fine. Now, after the BIOS runs and Windows tries to
start, I get the screen that allows Safe mode start up.
No matter which start option I choose, I get a Blue Screen
of Death that says Windows has shut down to prevent
computer damage. It tells me to check my hard drive, run
CHKDSK /F, check for viruses, etc. The hard disk is fine
and is recognized by the BIOS, the system was virus free
prior to the component upgrade.

The specific technical message I get is as follows:

"Stop: 0x0000007B (0xF8B4D640, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000,
0x00000000)"

Any thoughts on resolution? Thanks!

Sounds to me like your new hardware is too different for your previous
installation of XP to be happy. You have done the equivalent of taking an
image off a PC & deploying it to a completely different spec machine.
Because the HAL is different you would need to reinstall XP.

Maybe try booting off the XP CD & repairing your XP installation? - I have
not tried this tho & you may lose everything - you did back up 1st right?
;-)

Good news is that if you do nothing more with the content of your HDD & put
the old hardware back together you should be fine!

Thanks for the reply. In fact, I was successful at
booting off the Windows XP CD-ROM and running the repair
utility. I did have the PC gods smiling on me . . . I
hadn't backed anything up, but ended up losing nothing in
the process. Thanks again for taking time to respond.
