Did you install SP3 for XP, or Windows XP with SP3?

None of these articles are relevant.

I had XP sp2 and upgraded to sp3 using Windows Update and then the problem
started.

Oh, I see. I misunderstood your post. Please see PA Bear's suggestions.

None of those suggestions helped. Any other ideas?

Uninstall SP3 and see if wireless works then. If it does, the problem is
probably one of the updates included in SP3. If the problem still occurs,
something else has changed besides SP3's installation.

What is your wireless adapter? How were you controlling the wireless
network access?

Windows XP SP3 does let wireless networking to work as long as the
wireless adapter drivers are correctly working.

I tried uninstalling and it went through a lot of steps and just after
"Copying files..." it says "The system cannot find the specified file" .
Press OK.
"The Service Pack 3 was not unistalled. Press OK and it exits

My wireless adapter is Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG. Device manager reports it
is working fine.
I'm not sure what you mean by the second part:
How were you controlling the wireless

Click on Start, Run and enter "winver" without the quotes. What does it list
your SP level as being?

The controlling part can be done either with Intel ProSet software or
Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) system. Sometimes, WZC
fails to correctly access the wireless network. You may need to
update the Intel drivers, install the wireless management tool from
the laptop's manufacturer or try the Intel ProSet system.

I updated all the drivers but it's still not working.

Who made your laptop?

A lot of laptop makers provide their own wireless network manager to
control which network you connect to.

My laptop is from HP and I have installed their latest Wireless Manager also
but it still doesn't work.
