Trying to troubleshoot an XP SP2 upgrade here, the machine
will boot fine in safe/vga mode. When I try to boot
normally, the XP boot loading screen displays for a split-
second then the machine reboots. I've tried upgrading all
my drivers (including my video driver), and nothing seems
to work.

When I boot into safe mode, everything seems to function
normally. When I boot into VGA mode, it starts up and I
can run applications, but the shell won't start (even when
I try to start the explorer.exe task manually). Very
peculiar.

My setup is as follows:

Asus A8V-Deluxe motherboard
Athlon64 3800+ (I've tried disabling NX already)
ATI Radeon X800

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Zack

Zack,

please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm.

I think you probably have the DEP (Data Execution Prevention)
problem in connection with your video driver. The web site has a
workaround for that. Check the boot problems chapter.
