Windows XP SP2 - Problems with startup (system halt)

There is and has been a major issue with my ThinkPad T60 since I purchased it
6+ months ago. I am a part of an Active Directory domain at the office and I
"think" that this is related to the issue but cannot determine the exact
cause.

The issue is prevalent when I perform the following tasks:

1. Login to windows
2. Try to open Internet Explorer
3. Try to open Microsoft Word or Excel

The issue is as follows: When I First log into windows, the machine takes
longer than 2 minutes before it even starts loading the desktop. After 2-3
minutes, the desktop finally loads and everything appears to operate
correctly EXCEPT when I try to open Internet Explorer, Excel or Word - Again,
I am forced to wait a further 2-3 minutes for these applications to respond
or even open in some cases.

NOTE: When I disconnect the cable at startup, the AD login script throws an
error - could not execute login.vbs - This is the script that is
auto-executed at login...

The issue is definitely network related as I have discovered now that wen I
log in, all I need to do is unplug the network cable and the system responds
immediately, whether it is starting up or opening one of the suspect
applications.

I have re-imaged my HDD 4-5 times now using the ThinkVantage button and each
time, the same issue remains...

I have just upgraded from an Acer and never had a single problem with it...
I am 99% certain that the issue is related to all the crap that IBM install
by default onto the device i.e. all teh ThankVantage stuff...

Any help in debugging would be greatly appreciated.

My first guess would be that DNS settings on the laptop are incorrect. It
should be using domain DNS to resolve names and no other DNS servers.
Compare IPCONFIG /ALL output between this laptop and others that work
correctly.

Thanks for responding.

The ipconfig from both machines are identical. We are using DHCP and all
machines are set to automatically obtain DNS settings.

This is driving me nuts... Everytime I open IE I wait 30 seconds, get
annoyed, unplug network, plug it back in and then I have to reconnect to AD
to ensure that my files stay in sync...

Well then, unless you have a virus/spyware program I'm not sure what else it
might be.

I have ZA 7 however, even disabling this has no effect.

Looking through the autoruns, it is obviously the loading of explorer.exe
that is taking so long (toolbar wont come up at all for 2-3 minutes) so it
must be that or anything loading prior.

All that loads prior to explorer.exe is:

rdpclip.exe &
userinit.exe

I can't disable userinit because that will restrict logon...

I will try rdpclip again but cannot believe that this state of the art
device is so bad!!!
