Windows XP SP2 and upnp

Hi,
Since I installed SP2 I am unable to get upnp working.
My router is a Linksys BEFW11S4 ver 3.2 with latest
firmware 1.45, upnp is enabled of the router. In Network
connections the Internet Gateway shows up but it is
disabled and if I try to enable the gateway it tries but
it still says disabled.

I have enabled the firewall UPNP setting and even
disbaled the new SP2 firewall but it makes no
difference. I have SP1 installed on my laptop and that
connects fine still.

I have spoke to Linksys and twice they have said to
contact microsoft about the issue.

Thanks
Dean.

What are you trying to connect to/with via UPnP? I have SP2, the same
router with UPnP enabled, and every UPnP-enabled application connects
via UPnP just fine, but there is no Internet Gateway in my Network
Connections. I have static IP addresses on my network, that might be
the difference.

UPnP is not required to establish a basic network or Intenet connection
with either DHCP or static IP addresses. Try this: open the TCP/IP
properties of the connection, General tab, Advanced properties, Options
tab, TCP/IP filtering properties. Check Enable filtering, and then if
the three protocols/ports are set at Permit Only, change that to Permit
All. Leave the Enable box checked.

If you have no defined UPnP application needs, opening UPnP on the
router is generally considered to be a Really Bad Idea since it is a
security risk. I open it when and if needed, and only then.

.

I use MSN Messenger for file sharing and voice
conversations as do 2 other people sharing the connection
so I do really need upnp working. For the internet
connection to appear in Network Connection I think you
need to install upnp support from the windows XP CD using
add/remove progs and windows components.

With SP2 and my setup MSN just hangs when trying to do
voice and I'm having to end task it, take the router out
and connect the SP2 box direct to the cable modem and it
works fine first time everytime. I've even rebuilt my PC
but still the same, I originally just loaded SP2 over my
SP1 but this time I integrated it onto the CD and
installed it but its not helped, even a bare build (just
msn and Sp2) still the same.

The TCP/IP filtering you suggested also makes no
difference.

I use a static IP for my PC but also have DHCP enabled on
the router for the other clients and my laptop, whether
my PC is static or DHCP it makes no difference.

Thanks
