Windows XP Shutdown

I have XP Pro and very recently noticed that when I go to shutdown and click
the "Turn Off" button nothing happens. I have to repeat the process before
the system actually shuts down and powers off. I am thinking that a recent
Windows update did this because this issue has only occurred within the last
month or so.
Any ideas? Thanks!
