Windows XP shutdown problem

HELP!!! Whenever I go to Start-Shutdown to shutdown my
computer, The Log-off/Saving Your Settings screen
appears for not even a second then nothing happens. I
don't have a virus or a worm. I have been editing my
Windows Regestry lately and I think I might have deleted
something improtant. Someone Please Help!
