Windows XP, SFM, and Mac O.S. 9.2 Network Printing

I have successfully networked my G3 Mac and a Windows XP
PC using a hardwired Linksys router, but have not been
able to locate much information about file and printer
sharing between the Mac and my PC printer. Can someone
please point me in the right direction?

Hi Dan!

Windows XP doesn't have SFM, so this isn't an option. Also, your Mac will
want to send Postscript to any printing device, so if you have a printer
attached to your XP machine it must support Postscript. If you have
something like an inkjet or Deskjet printer, you'll most likely be out of
luck.

The only printing protocol these two machines have is LPR. You'll need to go
into XP's Add/Remove Programs Control Panel --> Add/Remove Windows
Components and locate this under Other Network File and Print Services.

On your Mac, you'll need to use the Desktop Printer utility to set up an LPR
printer using the Windows XP machine's IP address and the share name of the
printer as the queue.

You may be able to find more detailed help at http://www.macwindows.com.

Hope this helps! bill
