Windows XP Setup

A

Andrew Chen

All,
I tried to upgrade (fresh install) my Toshiba laptop
(Satellite A15-S127) from Windows XP Home Edition to
Windows XP Professional. I received error messages when
it ran to Step 4 of Installing Windows with 39 minutes to
complete. The messages said 'Setup failed to remove
product catalog of SP1.CAT, DXBDA.CAT, ...'. I could not
quit the setup process either, because everytime I powered
off/on the laptop, it continued to run setup until above
error messages poped up. The helps I need are:

1. Tell me how to stop the setup process, so I can go back
to old XP Home Edition, or

2. Remove existing CAT files and continue to finish up
setup process.

Thanks much.

Hi Andrew

When the error is displaying during the setup process:

- Hit Shift and F10, at the same time, and bring up the command promt.
-Make sure you are in the directory C:\WINDOWS\system32
- type "ren catroot2 catrootold"
- reboot, setup should continue

****NOTE****
- If when you try to rename the catroot2 folder it states "access is denied", you should be able to log into the recovery console and rename
it from there.
