I am trying to re-install Windows XP Home on my PC.
At the point of installing Windows and setup will complete in 39 minutes it
fails with the following messages.
FATAL ERROR

An error has been encountered that prevents setup from continuing. Setup
failed to install product catalogs. This is a fatal error. he setup log
files should contain more information. Press OK to view setup log.

The setup log says.

Warning Setup failed to remove the product catalog IEEXCEP.CAT

Warning Setup failed to remove the product catalaog SP1.CAT

Error The signature for Windows XP Home Upgrade is invalid. The error code
is 426. The service has not been started.

I tried renaming catroot2 and it still fails.

So now I am caught in an endless setup loop. Whenever I boot my computer it
goes back to the setup sceen and then give me the error above.

Any suggestions

Thanks,

Leon

. Leon,
it sounds like one of the files is infected with a
virus. I suggest if you are willing to do this. if your
trying to do a OS rebuild. the only way I can think of is
doing is going into your BIOS and while your Windows XP cd
is in your drive. have the computer boot into that cd.
now, it sounds like alot of files are infected. like I
said. if you are willing. have setup wipe the drive
(backup first of your important files) and put a fresh
copy of Windows XP on it. if you have any questions. Email
me.

good luck.
