Windows XP setup hangs up at blue screen with Windows Setup text

After changing an old 30 GB hard disk to 250 GB new one I have not been able
to install Windows XP. I now have a 160 GB HD as master disk and a 250 GB HD
as slave. I used Maxtor MAXBlast 4 CD to partition and format both disks.
Then I tried to install XP Home to the master. All went well to the point
where the blue screen with text Windows Setup appears. After that nothing
happened. I tried XP Professional instead. Same result. I then changed the
master disk (with MAXBlast CD) for installing W 2000. No problems. I then
tried to install XP Professional over W 2000. Again, the same result. As far
as I understand, XP installation has copied the required folders and files on
master disk, but does not continue after the blue screen. I have previously
had XP Home in the PC, and it was installed on the very same 160 GB disk. On
the old 30 GB disk I then had Windows Me.

Help would be very valuable, both proposals for what to do, and explanations
what XP does after it shows the blue screen with Windows Setup text.

Is the new drive SATA ? If so, then you probably need the floppy-based
driver for your mobo's SATA controller to run setup. (press F6 after the
first reboot)

Thanks, Ian

but both drives are Ultra ATA.

After trying many ways to solve the problem I finally updated the BIOS to the
latest version. That solved the problem. Now XP Home runs nicely in the
machine.
