Windows 98 error

I have a laptop computer that has a 60 GB hard-drive. I partitioned it into
a 20 GB and a 30 GB hard drive. I installed Windows XP Home on the 30 GB
partition, and I wanted to install Windows 98 on the 20 GB partition, but
during the installation a problem occurred.
The computer installed all of the files off the Windows 98 CD, and then the
computer restarted.
After it restarted and opened the windows 98 setup it had a little screen
open and a magnifier was circling a computer and then a blue screen came and
it said some error and a few other things and said to press any key so I
pressed a key and then Windows 98 setup screen reappeared and it froze and on
the top were some lines and I think there were lines on the right side of the
screen, I restarted the computer, and the same thing happened. I tried
reinstalling windows 98 but the same stuff appeared.

Can I do anything about this problem?

Also when I was going through the setup process it wanted me to pick the
20GB drive to install Windows 98, but when it wanted me to type a drive
letter to install Windows 98, I did not know what to type so I let it install
in c:/windows which was were XP was installed.

Will you tell me what drive letter to type to install windows 98 on the 20
GB hard drive?
And how to fix the error problem.

If you truly have installed both o/s on the same drive you need to delete
the partition and start again.
I believe you would need to install win9 prior to installing winxp.

Start over. Format both partitions and install Win98 first on the C:
drive. Once that's completed install WinXP to the
D: or second partition. Choose New Install>Advanced. This will give you
the option to choose what partition Xp installs
to. XP will then place the NT bootloader on the C: drive and you will
get a Menu giving you the option to choose Win98
or XP. Use FAT32 for XP.
