windows xp service pack2

after downloading windows service pack 2,the (wsp2)wizard come up and I
follow the steps and start it.The status bar comes up and when it say
updating your system, details ,backing up registry.... it just freezes.please
someone help, is this a problem with my computer or am I doing something
wrong.I have tried this 4 or 5 times allready and I can't get windows service
pack 2 installed.
