Windows XP Service Pack 2

I recently installed Windows XP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe from Softpedia for my
home computer which has XP Professional (Released to Manufacturers). Now the
Windows release materials tell me to incrementally load it using my
auto-updates. Is there anything wrong with the way I loaded it?

It's not a good idea to download the SP from a non-
microsoft source. I got the network install yesterday and
in installed flawlessly on my XP Pro machine. I'm in the
process of passing the disk on to my poor buddies on dial-
up.

Anyhow...see if you can restore your computer and install
the proper service pack from MS. If you're really itchen
to get it...download the network install, but be sure to
pass the disk around to as many people as you can. Do not
keep it for yourself.

At least you didn't download it off Kazaa! I can't
believe there are people who actually did that!

Cheers

The original is buggy enough. I had it installed for maybe half an hour before
it totally screwed up everything ATI.
This was just last week. You can't tell me they've now released that buggy
thing as an actual release ?

They haven't fixed the ATI bugs from SP1 yet.

Just because something doesn't work for you doesn't mean there is a bug.
It's up to ATI to make their drivers work with the OS not the other way
around. (I haven't heard of any particular ATI problem though.)

If you're using sp2, I wouldn't rush out and get the aiw9800 just yet. I can't
speak for any of the other cards.
I test drove sp2 for the length of time it took to crash my display, disable
video drivers, kill the TV loading, and corrupt the TV guide database.
Since the AIW is my display driver sp2 had to go.
Without a display and having to log in as admin just to boot into 800x600 sp2
wasn't worth the effort to me.

Seems to me since the aiw9800 hardware was already out there, sp2 should have
had something to accommodate whatever it was that crapped out the 9800 display.

AIW is a #1 display hardware manufacturer.
It shouldn't have been any surprise to M$ that the AIW 9800 was incompatible
with this sp2 release.
Something like this should have been worked on jointly ATI and M$ so that if it
was something ATI could fix, that ATI would have drivers available when it was
released.
This is assuming sp2 is now released to the public. Like I said just last week
it was in beta.

Don't know what to tell you, I have 2gigs of RAM, and two large SATA drives. SP2 isn't the problem for me. MS cannot make everything work for other manufacturer's, it is up to the manufacturer to be prepared for MS (since they are the top OS in the world). It isn't like these manufacturer's didn't know that SP2 wasn't going to come around.. But as I stated that I am not having any problems, suggests it is your setup along with SP2, and nothing to do with SP2 causing your issues.

P.S.
