Windows XP/Sasser/Booting problems

I have been trying to solve these problems for almost 2 weeks. I've read
numerous posts and contacted the Dell support staff. I do have a firewall
activated and have a subscription to McAfee set for automatic updates. I
also checked regularly w/ Microsoft for Windows XP updates. I followed the
following steps with the following results:

When I turn on my computer, it goes to the screen that says DELL Dimension
8200, with the options of pressing F2 or F12 in the upper right corner of the
screen. If I don't press either of those keys, it moves to a black screen
with the flashing "_" (I'm not sure what you call it.) for a second or two,
and then says "Press any key to boot from CD." The Windows XP screen comes
up and looks as if it is booting. The screen then goes black. I get the
error message that "lsass.exe - system error 'Object not found."

After shutting down and restarting a number of times to get the sequence
that I described above in the correct order, I now have the following
message: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or
corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the
original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."
This is a new problem and I'm hesitant to go any further without some help.

I do not have access to the start button or the control panel that a lot of
the instructions I've read seem to require. I can go to F2 or F12 and that
is the only thing that has stopped the continual rebooting &/or setup loop.

I have basic computer knowledge, but am not an expert. If I read an article
that requires putting in commands manually, I don't know where I'm supposed
to go to do this. Even "Safe Mode" is not accessible. I need basic, step by
step. Most of the posts send the reader to articles or sites that require
access to the Start/Run button. I don't have access to that.

I probably have the Sasser worm. I have 3 goals: 1. to remove the worm; 2.
to reinstall Windows XP so that I can access the Internet and install
Stinger; and 3. to recover all of my programs and data.

I'm sorry that this post is so long, but when I've only included part of the
information, I'm sent to sites that just don't get me anywhere. Thank you in
advance for any help you can give me.

Disconnect your computer from the Internet..
Perform a repair installation..
Once you have performed the repair installation, boot up, turn on your
firewall, hook it back up to the Internet and clean your machine using one
of the web pages (including the Microsoft ones) that tell you how.

Thank you, Shenan, for the suggestion. I'll give it a try today. Sasser
seems to be causing havoc for a lot of people.

I tried what you suggested, but just ended up in the same cycle. I can do
the windows setup, but end up with the message "lsass.exe - file missing"
again. The computer then starts to reboot again. Because I don't have
access to the Start/Run button, is there any way to enter DOS to put in a
command that will let me get to Start/Run?
