Windows XP restarts without loading

I woke up this morning and turned on my computer as usual
only to have it restart on me before Windows XP
Professional can load up. It did this for at least 10 more
times until I finally gave up and I have to use my
computer at work. I did not install or uninstall anything
out of the ordinary last night, the only new thing that I
can remember is that I downloaded and installed windows XP
update (I don't even remember what update it was because I
can't even get into my computer now).

What has happened? How can I get my data back?
