windows xp- repeated restarts

My computer was shut off without shutting down windows. Now the screen to
select dafe mode start comes up. I select yes. windows start to load but then
shuts down and re-starts.

I tried to boot from the xp set-up CD. I put the cd in the drive. At
start-up it says press any key to boot from CD.... nothing happens.

I haven't tried continuously pressing F8... is this what I should do?

I downloaded Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 Utility: Setup
Disks for Floppy Boot Install. Should I try to boot from this?? ... and then
what?

When you have the option to boot into Safe Mode do you also see the option
for Last Known Good Configuration? You should try that first. Here's more

last known good configuration option didn't work.

I tried to boot from CD. This also didn't work.

Then I downloaded the 6 set-up diskettes from Microsoft.

I loaded all 6 diskettes. Then I typed in FIXMBR (I think that was the
spelling).

This worked and took care of the problem
