Windows XP Repair

Very slow boot up, taskbar missing, NO programs are
working including explorer. Have to shut down using the
sytem monitor program. Restarted in safe mode, explorer
was working but was unable to get to the control panel.

So I booted the PC from Windows XP CD to run Windows
repair, but the Computer hangs at the Windows XP
installation screen when it is ready to copy files.
 
Can you get to the System restore under the accesories
menu on the start menu. if you can try restoring to an
earlier date
