windows XP recommended updates

I posted this in the Messenger section...just in case
they don't answer me I'm sending it to you.
I get the critical updates automatically but for the
recommended ones I sometimes don't know whether I should
install or not. Don't know much and Im just a little
french old lady lol. The last time I installed a
recommended one (framework) it changed things (good thing
u were their to help). Now there's this one XP SP1
(817778) Advanced Networking Pack...not to clear to me if
I need it or not. It mentions something also about a
firewall, I'm not using Windows' firewall, I installed my
own. If I install a recommended update that I don't need
can it harm my computer or mess things up?. My brother
always tells me to install them all...that way everything
in my computer will be up-to-date...I'm not too sure
about that...what do U think?. Hope you will be able to

No, dont install them all. If unsure what to install I would err on the side
of caution. An update for a program you dont use or need is just as likelly
to cause a problem as to fix it.
