Windows XP Professional for Embedded Systems.

Is this a genuine Microsoft product? We have a industrial PC from our China
operation, supplied witha COA sticker with this on. I am suspcious. I am
only aware of

XP Embedded
XP Professional

If this is a Microsoft product, how can it be obtained? We are having some
problems with hardware changes from our suppliers, making maintaining our XP
Embedded images and bit of a nightmare, we currently have something close to
"XP Pro" as our embedded image (minus games, and some small bits), but it
still does not always behave the same as XP Pro, and we always get caught out
by missing drivers.

If "Windows XP Professional for Embedded Systems" is a genuine Microsoft
product, and it's what I think it is (XP Pro, without the product activation,
and with similar licenencing terms to XP Embedded), this could be the ideal
solution, on how to get XP Pro onto our industrial PCs.

"Windows XP Professional for Embedded Systems" is genuine MS OS and you should contact your embedded distributor for more infos.

It's not for EPOS systems, and the MSDN does not really tell you what the
differences are between each version. (a very critical bit of information
when choosing the right OS).

We don't really need Embedded XP (which we are currently using). A XP Pro
with similar licencing terms to XPe woulld be more ideal. These arn't
desktop PC's, nor are they embedded devices, they are between the 2.

WEPOS is new smaller supported OS that have enough of usefull functionality that you will need for your aplications.

So it "Windows Embedded for Point of Service" the same as "Windows XP
Professional for Embedded Systems"?

No they are completely different OS-es. And you should be able to read specs of WEPOS in MSDN.
In the end you will have to see licensing terms and price to determine which OS is suitable for you.

We all know about "XP Professional" and "XP Embedded". Products that are
available but less well known are:

1. WEPOS aka Windows Embedded for Point of Service. This is built using
XPe but is tailored to the POS customer.
2. "XP Professional for Embedded Systems". This is exactly XP Pro - the
difference is in cost and licensing restrictions.

The missing drivers issue shouldn't be a problem starting with XPe-SP2. You
have a component that allows you to add entire classes of device drivers and
their class installers to the runtime. So you have the potential to have the
same inbox driver experience as Pro.

Of course the footprint hit from doing this is significant, right? In TD,
look in the node under SW | Test & Development for the component "Generic
Device Driver Support". Check its config ui. Let us know at wecrt at
microsoft.com if you have problems with it.
