Windows XP problems (Im not talking about the free problems Microsoft gives you)

Hi,
I have a home built pc which runs the worst operating system on earth
Windows XP. I am a Mac user and hate microsoft therefore dont know much
about this OS (although I know alot about Macs). When I first ran it I
expected the normal XP problems (shutting itself off for no reason,
blowing up, crashing, deleting all your files out of the blue, the
normal way to exit a window by forcing it closed). The thing is I got
this computer used and it came with a XP installed but no licence key
and I wouldnt pay Microsoft half a penny because that OS isnt worth
even a quarter of a penny. Everytime I attempt to update I get this
stupid message that says your licence key isnt valid or something like
that. Its Professional not Home edition. Licence key? How could
Microsoft have a licence key for something that is so horrible....oh
yea just so it will have more problems like everyone absolutly loves.
"Het Gates why not just make an OS that doesn't even ever turn on? If
people are dumb enough to buy this then there obviously dumb enough to
buy something that was not built to turn on oh but dont forget to copy
some more ideas from Apple and then take the money and add it with your
billions of dollars then go charge kids 50.00 bucks a year for gaming
service so youll have (mabie you should raise it after all thats what
cons do) $9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999.00 instead of
$9999999999999999999999999999999999999999000000.99."

Thanks everyone

Your operating system is probably not legitimate, check here to help
determine:

If so that may be the root cause of some or all of your problems.

The problems you describe are not typical and I rarely see them on my
computer.
Perhaps the previous owner left malware for you to enjoy?

i can tell by your other posts about how your G3 and powerbook aren't
working that you like to purchase used equipment and then bitch about
it.

like jupiter has already said, "your operating system is probably not
legitimate."

but, i bet you don't even have an xp machine...

You can try the same things you do for your MAC:
1. Knit it a sweater,
2. Take it for long walks in the evening mist,
3. Write poems to it,
4. Give it an affectionate and endearing name,
5. Include it in the family picture for your Christmas cards.

If none of these work, let us know.

PS
I noticed, just this week, that you can now run XP on a Mac. You'll have to
buy it first, though.

Then file your complaint with the person from whom you purchased the
laptop.
and it came with a XP installed but no licence key....

So you're aware that you're using stolen goods. Do you really expect
sympathy?

and I wouldnt pay Microsoft half a penny because that OS isnt worth

Don't confuse your inability or complete unwillingness to learn with
product quality. They're quite different things.

Everytime I attempt to update I get this
stupid message that says your licence key isnt valid or something like

If you are trying to install a WinXP Service Pack and getting the
following:

The Product Key Used to Install Windows Is Invalid
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q326904

You need to purchase and a _legitimate_ retail or OEM full license
of WinXP Pro to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation,
using the new CDs and Product Keys.

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows XP

How could
Microsoft have a licence key for something that is so horrible....

Well, you see, when a company designs an operating system that can be
used on literally hundreds of millions of different hardware
configurations, made by thousands of different manufacturers, it has to
take precautions to prevent piracy. This is something with which you,
as a professed Mac-ophile, would be completely unfamiliar. After all,
the MacOS runs on an extremely limited number of hardware platforms, all
of which are manufactured by a single company; it cannot be pirated
because it can't be used on anything else. (Not to mention how very few
people want it.)
