windows xp pro startup

greetings;
I replaced a disfunctional processor fan unit on an AMD
athlon processor and now windows stops startup just prior
to giving me the logon screen. I see the blue screen with
Windows logo and XP with the two orange lines at the top
and bottom only. I have done the following things:
- tried to restart with the most recent good
configuration, it tells me the task is successful and goes
to the same blue screen.
- tried to open up in safe mode or any other mode and it
is all the same, it says it is going to safe mode but then
just comes right back to the blue screen.
- tried to boot from original CD, it reads the CD and
shows the blue screen.
any suggestions?

You may have knocked something loose.
Try reseating all cards and cables.
Reseat the memory.

Did you reseat the processor heat sink ?
You may have damaged the core or not seated it correctly,
causing overheating.

Not only could he/she damage thre ocre, the core could be "fried" since the
processor fan was not working correctly.
