Windows XP Pro -Restart instead of Shutdown

T

Tom

Has anyone come across this problem: After I applied all
the latest service packs and security patches my pc does
not shutdown. I select Shutdown but instead it restarts.
I do not have Roxio installed (I already found that
document) so it must be some driver being affected. Can
anyone help out? If you can kindly email me...TIA.

Open Control Panel - System - Advanced and click on the Settings
button in the Startup and Recovery (bottom) section.

In the Startup and Recovery window click on the checkbox for
"automatically restart" to clear it.

That should put an end to the reboots and you should now receieve an
error message, probably a "Blue Screen Of Death" STOP message. If so
then the contents of the STOP message, including all of the
parameters, will be a direct clue as to the underlying cause of the
problem.

Good luck
