I want to install windows XP pro. First I tried upgrade using TOSHIBA's
"Windows XP Upgrade" utility. But during preparation for installation, the
process stop and wasn't able to install XP. After that whenr I restart, it
gives me an option to start with win2000 or winxp setup. If i choose winxp
setup, i will go through the windows xp setup screen until it shows me list
of existing partions. When I try to delete the partion it says "Setup is
unable to perform the requested operation on the selected partion. This
partion contains temporary setup files that are required to complete the
installation". If I try to Install, it says that im tring to install multiple
OS on a single partion and I dont want o do that. I want to get rid of my
windows2000 and install windowsXP only.

How can i usel the Windows XP CD, to format everything and install the OS?

Insert the WinXP CD in the CDROM drive (or DVD drive if no CDROM is
available). When your computer starts booting, press the DEL key and
enter the CMOS Setup utility. In the "Advanced" section you should see
the boot sequence. Set the first boot device to CDROM and the second
boot device to HDD0 (that's hard drive zero). Save setting and exit.
When it says "Press any key to boot from CD..." hit enter. Windows will
start, load drivers and other necessary files into memory. Follow each
screen until you get to the partitioning screen. Choose to delete the
primary partition if there is only one. If there are more than one,
delete the secondary partition(s) first then the primary. Next create a
new partition. Windows setup will then format the drive and install the
OS.

If you ignore the message Press any key to boot from CD..." the system
will boot from the hard drive after the above steps are completed. Later
go back to the CMOS Setup Utility and set the boot sequence back to
normal.

Ok. There is more than one way to do it. If you have a Floppy drive get
a Windows 98 startup diskette. Boot with it and run FDISK. You can
delete the primary dos partition using FDISK and then reboot with the
WinXP CD and format in NTFS and install the OS.

First thank you very much for helping.
I've done fdisk. Now, when you say format in NTFS, that means i should not
use the "Format.exe"? Right after doing fdisk, I reboot and try to boot
through the windows XP CD, but i get an error saying "Missing Operating
System".

You may not be hitting the enter key fast enough when "Press any key to
boot to CD..." appears, or the CDROM is not set to the first boot device
in the CMOS Setup. In either case the system tries to boot to the hard
drive which has no boot sector and system on it.
