Windows XP Pro Installation/Repair...

I am trying to repair a Windows XP Pro installation, but I
don't have the original CD-Key for it. I went out and
bought a new copy of windows xp and it doesn't recognize
the product key. I entered a key I had lying around that I
think went to the original one I had installed and it
accepted it. Now, it repaired it, but now when it boots up
it gives some error about not being able to find the
product key or some weird error. I can't boot from a cd
either now, cuz it just takes me right into windows. I
don't want to have to reformat, cuz I don't remember all
the software that I had on there and it is for a customer.
Any help would be appreciated.

Well I hope that you returned the new copy of WinXP that
you just bought and got your money back. If you have a
licensed copy of Windows XP but are just missing the key
belonging to it, call Microsoft directly and they should
be able to provide you another one. Don't waste your
money or be afraid to pick up the phone. You shouldn't
have to buy another copy to solve this problem.
