Windows XP Pro installation BSOD atapi.sys

I'm trying to install WinXP Pro but everytime it gets to the screen where I
have to press F8, it'll get to that screen and freeze or it'll blue screen
with the same error message every time. IRQL less than equal and then at the
bottom it says something regarding atapi.sys.

What could this be? Could it be a bad motherboard?

This is a Tyan MPX S2466 with dual processors on board. I've tried switching
out the IDE cables, tried and tested the memory, it's all fine and dandy. I
am thinking it's the motherboard but I'd like to get a second opinion.

a few creative ideas for diagnosis - if you dont have antoher comp to
try installing windows on.

I have had a blue screen earlier than that, because the contents of the
CD was somehow corrupt.
I diagnosed that by installing windows through virtual pc (or vmware
could be used), If you still get the error then suspect the CD or
contents of the CD). A fast way of doing it is to use Magic ISO or
maybe ultra ISO (Not WinISO - it's buggy) and extract an ISO from the
CD and then you can

you could try installing windows without the CD drive in there. ATAPI
has something to do with CD drives. Could be a bad cd drive

I've tried another cd-rom drive. I've tried a different Windows CD. The CD
is practically spotless. Sometimes the keyboard stops working when I get to
the Windows is starting setup. I can't hit enter. The only thing I can
think of next is to flash this motherboard's bios and see if that works.
